day hike!
🗼 cordova county park!
it was a short hike but a tall climb, 169 steps straight up the 106-foot cordova observation tower overlooking lake red rock in central iowa!
i spent most of our brief time here thinking about the logistics of my imminent return to the pacific crest trail. as i say in this video, i love planning almost as much as i love hiking, and a big help with my ongoing pct adventure has been the trello, a web-based “kanban” tool. i talked about it at length in a video back in march 2025. i use the free version, by the way.
cordova county park sits along the banks of lake red rock in marion county, iowa — home to indigenous speakers of the Dakȟóta (Western Dakota), Dakhóta (Eastern Dakota), and Báxoje ich’é (Iowa) languages.
my trail name’s mythic and in 2026 i’m continuing my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i prepare to return to the pct (and hopefully tackle other section- and thru-hikes in the future), i'm going on day hikes to help keep in trail shape!
