day hike!
😋 camden state park!
taking advantage of a rare day of independence from obligations, southern minnesota guy & i headed out at dawn for a hike somewhere we’d never been before: camden state park!
the day’s highs rocketed well into the 80s — both the temperature AND the humidity — making for a challenging hike. thankfully the electrolytes and snacks we brought helped us brave the conditions.
we left the park with one regret (not covering all 16 miles of hiking trails) but also one fantastic takeaway: despite tons of tall-grass and deep-woods trail tromping, we didn’t flag a single tick (and just one mosquito bite), meaning that the permethrin treatments of our hiking clothes worked like a super-star!
freedom from those dangerous nuisances was such a blessing. it was a banner day!
camden state park is near the town of lynd in lyon county, minnesota — home to indigenous speakers of the Dakȟóta (Western Dakota), Dakhóta (Eastern Dakota), Yankton, and Lakȟótiyapi (Lakota) languages.
my trail name’s mythic and in 2026 i’m continuing my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i prepare to return to the pct (and hopefully tackle other section- and thru-hikes in the future), i'm going on day hikes to help keep in trail shape!
