day hike!
📸 fort defiance state park!
three months after my previous visit, i returned to fort defiance state park to get in more pre-pct elevation training — or at least what passes for elevation in the upper midwest! :)
this time i was joined on-trail not only by southern minnesota guy, but also a friend who is in the midst of her own wellness journey and had asked to join us for some steps and camaraderie.
i made a pitstop mid-hike to respond to another friend’s question about the equipment i use to shoot my “mythic” videos. (update: since i recorded this video, they’ve purchased the same camera — an insta360 ace pro 2 — to document their own outdoor adventures. i hope they like it!)
this park is located on the outskirts of estherville in emmet county, iowa — home to indigenous speakers of the Lakȟótiyapi (Lakota), Dakȟóta (Western Dakota), Dakhóta (Eastern Dakota), and Yankton languages.
my trail name’s mythic and in 2026 i’m continuing my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i prepare to return to the pct (and hopefully tackle other section- and thru-hikes in the future), i'm going on day hikes to help keep in trail shape!
