pre-hike logistics!
📦 packing & shipping trail food for future me!
i’m blessed to have my own personal support team — a/k/a southern minnesota guy — for all of my long-distance hiking adventures. he’s always a huge help, doing stuff like giving me rides to & from trailheads, arranging places to stay on zero days, and providing regular resupplies.
most on trail aren’t so lucky. for instance, many pacific crest trail thru-hikers have to ship resupply boxes ahead of them to places like post offices and hiker-friendly resorts. this is because towns can be few & far between (and far from the trail!), and you never know if you’ll find what you need there.
this summer i’m hiking a 120-mile stretch of the pct in california’s sierra nevada range (with my pal blue magic!) that i had to skip in 2025 due to wildfire smoke. unfortunately i’ll be going slower than i would have last year for conditioning reasons, and the only spot where the trail intersects “civilization” during this entire stretch — vermilion valley resort (v.v.r.) — happens to be on the wrong side of mountains for southern minnesota guy. and there’s no way i can carry 10+ days’ worth of supplies in my pack.
all of that to say, i’m shipping food & other supplies to v.v.r. so that blue magic & i hopefully have a more pleasant and successful adventure.
in this video i talk about the logistics and costs of shipping this stuff, along with a day-by-day breakdown of what we’ll be eating on-trail as we hike the gorgeous sierra! (spoiler alert: nothing hot!)
my trail name’s mythic and in 2026 i’m continuing my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i prepare to return to the pct (and hopefully tackle other section- and thru-hikes in the future), i'm going on day hikes to help keep in trail shape!
