day hike!
🩵 blue mounds state park!
i opened the new year with a january 1st hike in rock county, minnesota — traditional territory of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ and Yankton nations.
blue mounds state park is a star in minnesota’s constellation of public lands, featuring an impressive herd of bison, gorgeous quartzite cliffs, a lovely lake, miles of hiking and biking trails, and various camping opportunities.
during this hike i was listening to “Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times” by Katherine May. it’s been relevant not only to changes in my life and career, but also inspirational in the face of heartbreaking challenges my fellow minnesotans are experiencing right now.
my trail name’s mythic and in 2025 i continued my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i make plans to return to the pct (and hopefully tackle other section- and thru-hikes in the future), i'm going on day hikes to help keep in trail shape!
