day hike!
🍽️ nerstrand big woods state park!
on november 22, 2025 southern minnesota guy & i took a hike and cooked up a tasty lunch in rice county, minnesota — traditional territory of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Wahpekute, and Wahpeton nations.
while the falls of prairie creek weren’t exactly roaring, it’s a still a magical place to visit any time of year, and the many miles of trails that meander throughout the park showcase nature’s beauty. on this day we happened to stay on the park’s more wooded northern half; the southern half is predominantly prairie.
we took a break part-way through the day for a hot lunch — cooking a couscous recipe that on the pacific crest trail i would have just cold-soaked. things didn’t quite go according to plan, but we ended up enjoying the meal… eventually.
my trail name’s mythic and in 2025 i continued my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i make plans to return to the pct (and hopefully tackle other section- and thru-hikes in the future), i'm going on day hikes to help keep in trail shape!
