day hike!

💛 timberlane county park!

it’s not often a place you’ve hiked countless times suddenly has a new trail to try, but that’s just what southern minnesota guy & i experienced on october 18th.

timberlane county park doesn’t look like much on a map but, particularly in autumn surrounded by golden treasure in the treetops, it’s a truly special place to visit.

the park is split between a prairie area and a wooded area, the latter of which now features an additional lakeside trail on the north side of the gravel road that provides car access through the woods. (previously hikers would need to take the road to make a loop, or double back to the parking area.)

a nice little bonus to the new trail is a lovely bench offering a peaceful waterfront rest spot amidst the turmoil of the world. it’s a brief respite, but i’ll take it.

timberlane county park is located in martin county, minnesota — home to indigenous speakers of the Dakȟóta (Western Dakota), Dakhóta (Eastern Dakota), Lakȟótiyapi (Lakota), and Yankton languages.

my trail name’s mythic and in 2026 i continued my multi-year thru-hike (m.y.t.h.) of the pacific crest trail. as i plan my 2027 return to the pct, i'm going on day hikes & bikes to help keep in trail shape!
