day hike!
🇨🇦 franz jevne state park!
“i can see canada from my house!”
if your house happened to be in franz jevne state park, you could actually say that and not be joking. the park’s northern border is the rainy river, across from which lies the province of ontario. it’s a bit more than a stone’s throw, but still pretty cool for someone from the other end of minnesota.
it’s not a particularly large park, but franz jevne was jam-packed with cute little flora and fauna, and mushrooms in particular. between looking up at golden leaves, down at frogs & fungi, and over the flowing river, our necks got as much of a workout as our legs!
franz jevne state park is located in koochiching county, minnesota — home to indigenous speakers of the Southern Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe), Dakȟóta (Western Dakota), Dakhóta (Eastern Dakota), Lakȟótiyapi (Lakota), and Saulteaux languages.
